E-Reader Policy Approve by Trustees

E-readers will be used at the Erving Public Library and circulated to adults starting in January. The Trustees have adopted a policy for use.

Borrowing Rules

  • Patron must have a current Adult (18 and older) library card in good standing from Erving or another library in the C/WMARS network.
  • The E-Reader must be checked out and returned      at the Erving Library desk and handed directly to a staff person to check      in.
  • The E-Reader may not be returned to another      library, nor placed in the book or media drop outside.
  • E-Readers are loaned for two weeks and are not      renewable. Patrons are encouraged to return E-Readers when their need is      met.
  • E-Readers cannot be “Claimed Returned”
  • If overdue, the fee is $1 per day.

Patrons will be charged the full price of the e-reader if lost or damaged. Any lost or damaged cables or cases will also be the responsibility of the user as will any items added to the e-reader either intentionally or accidentally. There will be a $10 charge if used for Internet purposes and sites are not cleared upon return.

Liability                                                                                                    The Library is not responsible for any liability, damages or expense resulting from use or misuse of the device, connection of the device to other electronic devices, or data loss resulting from use of device. EVERGREEN MIGRATION DELAYED AGAIN

We wanted to inform you that there will be another delay for the Evergreen software coming to our C/W MARS catalog. The

Central/Western Massachusetts Automated Resource Sharing (C/W MARS) system,  accessible online at: http://www.cwmars.org will continue to provide access to all of the library resources in our area, but the software is changing to a system called Evergreen.

When the new system is online, the Friends of the Library will be offering public information sessions. If you encounter any difficulty, I’m here to help.

Barbara Friedman, EPL Director    413-423-3348

On Monday, December 12, 2011,

C/W MARS launched a redesign of its OverDrive Digital Catalog, http://digitalcatalog.cwmars.org. All the information you are used to having available will still be there, but in a new, cleaner layout. Additional enhancements such as browsing specific format collections (EPUB, MP3, Kindle), suggested read-alikes for titles, and new filters for searching will be introduced. Patrons should find the new catalog a great tool for finding downloadable ebooks and audiobooks.

The Erving Library Buys the Hottest Books, CDs & DVDs – If you don’t find them on the shelf, they’re being read or viewed. Reserve these new or “soon to be released” titles.
